Secondary Glazing Installation at The Granary Business Centre, Cupar

The Property

The Granary Business Centre is a Category A Listed historic building in Cupar, Fife. The property contains traditional timber sash and case windows which contribute significantly to its architectural character.

The Challenge

Improve thermal comfort and reduce draughts while preserving the appearance and operation of the original windows.

The Solution

Installation of the CSG System secondary glazing throughout selected windows, providing improved thermal performance and draught proofing without altering the building’s historic fabric. We also powder coated our aluminium frame to match the colour of the timber, making the CSG system nearly invisible.

The Result

Improved comfort and energy efficiency while maintaining the original character of the listed building and preserving the existing sash and case windows.

Customer Feedback

“The secondary glazing units are very low profile and fit into the aesthetics of the building/windows in a sympathetic manner, they have performed well there and is a definite improvement in the overall energy efficiency of the building.” – Jennifer Martin, Cupar business Centre Building Manager.

Secondary Glazing Installation at Cambo Country House, Fife

The Property

Cambo Country House is a historic Victorian country house set within the renowned Cambo Estate near Kingsbarns, Fife. Built in 1881, the property forms the centrepiece of a significant historic estate and retains many original architectural features, including traditional sash and case windows.

The Challenge

Improve comfort, reduce heat loss and minimise draughts through the original sash and case windows while preserving the character and appearance of this important historic property. The solution also needed to allow the original shutters to operate as normal and help reduce noise from nearby estate activities and events, including weddings and functions that can continue into the evening.

The Solution

The CSG System was installed to provide effective secondary glazing, improving thermal performance and draught proofing without altering the original windows or impacting the building’s historic character.

The Result

The property benefits from improved comfort, reduced draughts and enhanced energy efficiency, while maintaining the appearance and functionality of the original sash and case windows. The discreet design ensures the architectural character of the house remains unchanged.

Customer Feedback

“Very happy so far with the secondary glazing, it has improved sound proofing, so there is now less disturbance from outdoor activities.” – James Erskine, Director, Cambo Estate

Secondary Glazing Installation at a Newington Tenement Flat, Edinburgh

The Property

A traditional Edinburgh tenement flat located in the Newington area, featuring original sash and case windows and situated on a busy urban street.

The Challenge

The property already had plastic secondary glazing installed, however the homeowner was looking for a more effective solution to reduce external noise. Living on a busy Edinburgh street, traffic and general city noise were a constant issue affecting comfort within the flat.

The Solution

The existing plastic secondary glazing was replaced with the CSG System incorporating acoustic glass. Designed specifically for traditional sash and case windows, the system provides enhanced acoustic performance while remaining discreet and sympathetic to the original character of the property.

The Result

Following installation, independent testing carried out by the homeowner recorded a 9dB reduction in external noise. By comparison, the previous plastic secondary glazing had achieved only a 4dB improvement, meaning the CSG System with acoustic glass was more than twice as effective at reducing noise. This level of performance is typically perceived as close to a 50% reduction in noise, creating a significantly quieter and more comfortable living environment while retaining the appearance of the original sash and case windows.

Customer Feedback

“”These guys did our secondary glazing and I can confirm it’s both a great product and a great company! It’s basically the only option out there that gives those kind of results without impacting your shutters.”. – Dylan Burns, architect & homeowner.
